  • MP3 audio only
  • JPG cover or photo

What quality Instagram actually serves

Instagram transcodes every upload on its side, so the file you get back is whatever the app decided to keep. Reels top out lower than feed video, and carousels are stored as separate objects rather than one file.

FormatWhat to expect
Reel MP4, up to 1080x1920Vertical, roughly 2 to 5MB per 15 seconds after Instagram compression.
Feed video MP4Square or 4:5, usually 1080 wide, sometimes 720 on older posts.
MP3 audioPulled from the reel track, useful for voiceovers and interviews.
JPG photo or coverFull size original for photo posts and carousel slides.

Instagram on mobile versus desktop

On your phone

  1. 1.Tap the three dots above the reel or post, then Copy link. On a reel the share arrow works too.
  2. 2.Open your browser and paste into the box. The clipboard prompt catches it automatically.
  3. 3.Pick the MP4 for video, or tap a slide thumbnail to save a single carousel item.

On a computer

  1. 1.Open instagram.com and click into the post so the URL contains /p/ or /reel/.
  2. 2.Copy the address bar URL and paste it above.
  3. 3.Each carousel item lists separately, so save only the ones you need.

Why a Instagram download sometimes fails

It says the post cannot be reached

The account is private, or the post was age restricted. Instagram requires a logged in session for both, and we never ask you to connect an account.

A story link expires halfway through

Stories only exist for twenty four hours and the media URL rotates sooner than that. Grab it while the story is still visible on the profile.

The reel saves at lower quality than the app

Instagram serves a smaller encode to web clients than to the native app. We take the highest variant offered, we cannot request the app only stream.

Instagram Frequently asked questions

Do I need to log into Instagram?

No. Nothing is connected to your account and we never ask for a password.

Can I download from a private account?

No. Private posts are not reachable without a session, so only public accounts work.

Do stories work?

Stories from public accounts usually resolve while they are still live, within the twenty four hour window.

Will the person know I saved their reel?

No notification is sent. Instagram does not tell creators when a link is opened elsewhere.

Why is the quality lower than on the app?

Instagram compresses uploads on its side. We hand you the best file it serves, we cannot add detail back.

Can I grab a carousel with several clips?

Yes, each item in the carousel shows up as its own download button in the results.

Can I save every slide of a carousel at once?

Yes. The result page lists each slide as its own file, and the bulk downloader will queue all of them together.

Do I need the Instagram app installed?

No. Everything runs in the browser, and a public post link copied from anywhere works the same.
