Works everywhere

Runs in any modern browser on phone, tablet and desktop. Nothing to install.

How the GIF is made

The first fifteen seconds are used, at twelve frames a second and four hundred and eighty pixels wide. Those numbers keep the file shareable rather than enormous.

GIF has no sound, so the audio track is dropped. For anything where the sound matters, convert to MP4 instead.

Getting a good result

Short and simple wins. A three second clip of one moving subject looks sharp, a fifteen second pan across a busy street turns grainy because GIF only allows two hundred and fifty six colours.

Trim the clip to the moment you actually want before converting and the file will be both smaller and cleaner.

No upload, no watermark

The conversion runs inside your browser, so the clip is never sent anywhere and nothing is stamped onto the result.

That makes it safe for internal recordings and screen captures that should not sit on a stranger's server.

Questions people ask

Is the video to GIF converter free?

Yes, and there is no watermark on the GIF.

How long can the GIF be?

Fifteen seconds. Past that the file grows faster than it is worth, so trim the clip first.

Why is my GIF so large?

GIF stores every frame as an image. Fewer seconds and less movement in the frame are the two things that shrink it.

Does the GIF have sound?

No, the format does not support audio. Convert to MP4 if the sound matters.

Is my clip uploaded?

No. It is converted on your own device.
